Hello, I have Windows 10 Pro for Workstations Insider Preview. It's activated but shows "Evaluation copy" on the watermark on the Desktop. How do I remove eval? Geek Squad remote support Agents are always asking me to remove evaluation copy. Do I have to remove it from the watermark or does it appear anywhere else? Anywhere else Geek Squad would see it? Is there a way of activating so it doesn't show? Please reply. Thanks
Theirs a universal watermark remover but not sure if will work on the current builds, do a search is here some were.
A couple of things First being Activated and Insider Preview are two separate things. Insider Previews expire. You can not use your Build after it expires. "Evaluation copy" is there for a reason. You did not say what Build you are using. Why do you need or use Geek Squad ? You did not say.
Hi, thanks for the replies. I will search for watermark removers. Thanks for the info on Insider Previews. I did not know that. I'm on Build 17713. I use Geek Squad for tune-ups, problems I am having with software like installs, and in-store support. And Webroot.
^^I am not sure watermark remover will solve your issue with geeksquad.Using RTM is a sureshot solution though.
Run winver to find out when your Build will expire. 17713 is a Beta Build of the RS5 Branch and is not due to go Final till Sept. and released to Public in Oct. The April 2018 Update (17134 ver. 1803) is the latest Public Release. This would be a downgrade for you.
Hi, I think I'll keep my Insider Preview and not downgrade to RTM. I update Insider Previews as soon as they come out. It's not really a problem with Geek Squad they don't ask about it that often and when they do I just tell them it's a Preview. So it's fine I'll keep it and continue to update to new Builds. Winver says I expire 12/14/2018. Thanks for the help.
It's likely they don't want to provide help for insider previews, they aren't asking just to remove the watermark but to revert to RTM/stable release. Using an Insider Preview of Windows is not like using a beta build of your favorite program. Anything and everything can break including hardware, major changes can happen between each preview and they literally throw everything against the wall and see what sticks. I can't blame even Geek Squad for not wanting to keep up with each preview and help users with them. If you are using Insider Previews you should be smart enough to either not use Geek Squad nor to have them troubleshoot issues related to Insider Previews. I sometimes use Insider Previews and if I encounter an issue I spend countless hours researching or reproducing an error, and If I am really stumped ask the community if they have a similar issue and if necessary report it to Microsoft.
Ok, I have had very few problems with Insider Preview. I started with Build 9926 which was 5 or 6 months before Windows 10 came out. I had Windows 8.1 before that. I started with a Dell Laptop (2014) that I later sold, and an old Dell Desktop from 2008 which crashed and I bought my current Desktop PC that I'm on in June 2016. November 2017 I had some problems with an Insider Preview freezing and restarting and stopped Builds until January 2018 and since then I have had no problems. I like updating it once a week or two. I also use Microsoft Forums and Technet Forums if I need help. Thanks for the info. I'll close this thread.
