Hi been searching google and other forums but can not seem to find anywhere that has found out how to create your own tile in the Metro UI. I do not mean a program shortcut but the coloured blocks like the Xbox one ?
You have to write an app (which means knowing how to program). Tiles are for apps to display their information readily to the user.
Thats not quite true though is it. I know you can have animated tiles and put info on them but look at the IE one, it doesnt do anything but show IE and the E logo. You click on it and IE launches. So you must be able to create one somehow like an icon ? Like the desktop one you just click it and the desktop appears. Surely its not encoded within the desktop app ?
apps shortcuts but still "useless" for your purpose. C:\Users\your account\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Application Shortcuts
I have been doing the same searching. It looks more and more like we will have to live with the start screen. We may as well start to tear it apart and make it look the way we want. I wish I knew the answer to this question.
Ok, I misunderstood what you wanted. You would just search for what you want to pin and then right click on it (on the start screen) and click "pin to start screen"
in fact we are thinking it would be nice to get a PIF editor (remember from win 3.1) or the properties screen from a .lnk file (shortcut) where it would be possible to assign a program, image and color to a tile. It could include all the basic parameters of an app. If it really needs to be an "app", a form of proxy app.
