I feel it was a significant update to the NT 6 kernal in ways of memory management and speed. Windows 8 is much more faster than Windows 7 in boot time and waking from hibernation mode. I was pissed about the Aero situation but oh well. I installed startisback and the gadget bar and it acts like Windows 7. I love having the traditional start menu and the metro start menu. They both serve their purposes well...
I bought it when it first came out - 2010? It's been a great tablet/e-reader/netbook (with keyboard). Not super fast, but it has a very sharp display and, hey, it runs Windows.
Wops, confused it with a W510, anyway what i wrote should work. Windows 7 does not have any Lock rotation mode, but Windows 8 has.
It's like any OS, there is a laundry list of tweaks to be made after every fresh install. Performance is better, fairly stable, lots of improvements to explorer and utilities. I like windows 8, not so thrilled with windows RT.
Love the start screen, What I hated about the start menu was the way it was cluttered with readme's and uninstall shortcuts after install I had to manually copy just the program shortcuts to the root of the directory deleting the rest. The start screen takes care of that itself pining just the program shortcuts. Xbox Movies is one of the few media players with integrated libarys that supports tagged videos, Hope its updated regularly.
But you still should not let Windows order you around, un-pin Programs you don't access daily instantly because remember.. press , type and enter.. The Startscreen is not meant to be clutterd with all programs you installed, that's what "All Apps" listing is for.
Think I am going to slap the next person that puts their greasy fingers on my monitor. 2 out of 10 even vista was better than this
I am using it since its CP and simply love it. Infact, I am addicted to it and love to work on 8 only. BTW, I mostly use desktop applications...
The more I use it the more I love it win 8 is the now for me and Win 7 has flowed away down the river of 01010010101..........
