How to activate Win 8.1 Update 1 PRO WMC ISO w/o retail key

    Hi all,

    How can I activate Win 8.1 Update 1 PRO WMC ISO w/o retail key?

    In the past I installed Win 8 Pro, used KMS activation then added WMC feature & did the 8.1 update from the store. All went smooth.

    Now If I do a fresh install from Win 8.1 Update 1 PRO WMC ISO, can I do a KMS activation then add WMC feature and how Windows activated?

    I don't have retail key or anything, only thing I have is the free WMC Key.

    When using such ISO, the WMC feature is already enabled after install. No need to to add anything. To activate it with a personal WMC key, it needs the ISO being prepared with generic activation tokens. Else the key will be rejected.

    Ok. I can get generic activation tokens from my current installation, but how can I prepare the ISO w/ this generic activation tokens?

    Some guide will be appreciated.

    That's not correct. If you start with Windows 8, KMS activate, upgrade to WMC, upgrade to Windows 8.1 and then you take a copy of the dat files from Windows 8.1 WMC at that point, then they are usable on another Windows 8.1 installation. (The presence of Windows 8.1 Update makes no difference).

    Therefore, if you already have an activated Windows 8.1 WMC installation, make a backup of the dat files. Once you do a fresh reinstall of Windows 8.1 (either with or without the Windows 8.1 Update), after installation, you can use the default WMC product key to upgrade to WMC. Once that's done, you can paste in the backed up dat files, and the system will now accept your personal WMC upgrade key and will activate with it.

    Ah, maybe I did something wrong before, because it didn't work the last time I tried ...... anyway, with retail-activated dat files flying all over the web, I don't want to try it again(I don't even have a win8 ISO now). :D

    Does anyone know how to activate a freshly downloaded 8.1 x64 Pro WMC ISO? I see a lot of conflicting posts in different threads. I know I was able to activate in the past with Microsoft Toolkit but can't recreate my steps now, a year later.
