I'm considering buying a used server with 32 drive bays for use as a home storage server using FlexRAID. I'm hoping to run Win7 Ultimate x64 as my OS, but not sure how to permanently activate it on an Intel S5000PSL Motherboard. I've installed Win7 on quite a few machines, always modifying BIOS with 1 of the tools written about on this board. Also used DAZ loader on VMWare with good results. I understand Intel boards cannot be flashed with modded BIOS in the conventional way, but there is a tool available to mod it in place. Also understand that tool won't work on a server board. Would use DAZ loader, but understand that may be a problem with UEFI BIOS, which I believe this board uses. So, how do I proceed? Or should I just go for something that can be easily BIOS modded? Thanks Ed
There is no problem with UEFI... you just need to format the HDD in MBR style (see the loader readme for more info).
Thanks, I read something about that, but wasn't real clear on the details. Ended up ordering a new Supermicro server board instead. Already tried the BIOS modding tool on a downloaded BIOS file, seems to work. Once the board arrives I'll get the RW report & do it proper Ed
