How to backup Office 2016 activation?

    Sorry if this sounds too dumb, but I couldn't understand it fully from Ratiborus' post.

    I know that Win10 activations are tied to the Hardware ID. Is it the same for Office 2016 activations also? Are Office 2016 activations too tied to the Hardware ID?

    Yes, its true for retail version at least.
    And I heard a amazing story about this on another forum. This guy was trying to activate his O16 through offline telephone. After input all the installation ID, he just hung up the phone(didn't write down the activate ID). Then he clicked the back button, chose "activate through internet" and activated it successfully. Obviously, he cancelled the offline telephone activation. So what he did could be deemed as restore activation information from the server through Internet. Amazing!
