hello, anybody solved how to Disable Windows Update thru unattend file? ("ProtectYourPC" is ignored or what) or how to Backup Start Menu (because 10XXX builds not using appsFolder.menu.itemdata-ms anymore)
- by file time check, startmenu saving changes probably here %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\CustomDestinations\ and %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations\ - and if you want prevent installing updates (400MB on drivers specially) directly after windows are installed, then classical commandline approach ("SC CONFIG/STOP") in unattend file working (ya...not so elegant) note. but this pissing me off ... Windows 10 automate some (at least for me) key features ... like choose which updates i want install or disable windows update completely (simply from settings) or exclude drivers from downloading, etc.
Windows Update is going to be 'ON' by default on most Windows 10 installs, and stopping the Windows Update service maybe the only way to stop it. But, I hope they'll have a way of blocking Driver installs. Especially to troublesome and bloated ones like Realtek and ATI. I couldn't find a way of backing up the Start Menu either, but hopefully someone here will work it out.
There is a folder in currentuser\appdata\local ... Start Menu, and you can find in it all the shortcuts of softwares and apps.
you can control WU through local GPOs. I have it setup to not download anything from WU at the domain level. As for the SM stuff I'm assuming it is like win+x where it is a combo of shortcuts and registry entries in HKCU.
GPO Computer Configuration,Administrative Templates,Windows Components,Windows Update -> Configure Automatic Updates (Notify for download and notify for install) but this isnt a simple way how to configure WU and... with GPO you cant simple set things thru commandline or registry (at least i do not know how) only with powershell scripts etc.
well, after some time testing build 10240 i think there is no easy way how to backup startmenu (like in Win81) thankfully pinned shortcuts in taskbar can be backuped in same way since Win Vista
