Thanks for this. I wish Microsoft would just make a tool to run before install would make this a lot easier. I think this should be a sticky as more people will be looking to install 8.1 and finding info on this I had to to dig around. Looks like mine has gets the green light. For those running the tool, check lines: LAHF-SAHF * Supports LAHF/SAHF instructions in 64-bit mode CX16 * Supports CMPXCHG16B instruction PREFETCHW * Supports PREFETCHW instruction (towards the bottom)
I agree..This functionality should be added in Windows Upgrade Advisor..As these specific instruction sets are not listed on the manufacturer's technical database
Anything from the past 6 years should be fine. Most things from the past 7-8 years should be fine, too. Only a small handful processor models didn't support them, and they have long since been retired. With hardware that old, buying a new Windows license doesn't make sense when the money is far better spent on hardware. So this is really only an inconvenience for people pirating Windows onto old machines, which is why Microsoft didn't make a big deal out of it.
