I use my PC most of the time, it has all my files (music, movies, etc.) on it. But when I'm downstairs I always use my laptop. Is there a way to access those files from my laptop. My HD on my laptop isn't large at all so it's a pain to have to copy over my files from pc to laptop. I just want to be able to play a music file or open up a document on my laptop thats from my PC. is this possible? Does Windows 7 allow some kind of sharing access? I hate using Dropbox to share files across my laptop and PC. Thanks guys...
If you are using Windows 7 you must have seen an item called "Homegroup" If you use a router you can access files over a network, but Homegroup is an item in Windows 7 "designed" to do that. Are both the PC and Laptop running Windows 7, you need that to use the Homegroup item. Read about it
Both Lap and PC are using Win 7... I know it's a "newbie" question, but I never really used Windows 7 to its full potential, I really don't know what it call all do. I just found out about Homegroups, which in a sense, is like Dropbox. I need to find a guide or FAQ that will help me find out the goodies of Win 7. I found the Homegroup on my PC, I set it up got my password. I went to my Laptop and entered the password in. Now I can see like 4 folders from my PC on my Laptop. I can only see music, pictures, video folders for some reason? One more thing... Why can I view my files from my PC on my Laptop but not the other way around? For some reason I cant figure out how to view files from my Laptop on my PC using homegroup? Again, thanks for your help guys!
I just go to Computer/ Networks (on the left side) from there I can access all the "user" stuff, incl. desktop... on my Main rig from my Lenovo Thinkpad. THT
