That skips the auto-downloading of device images and such for "Settings -> Devices" or the control panel "Devices and printers." but as for display drivers that needs either the new 1500x insider build of Win10 which adds it as a new option or you have to use GPEdit to force disable driver downloads via WU, unsure if the resulting registry key from that works for "Home" edition owners lacking the Group Policy tool. Alternatively one of the various Win10 tweak tools probably already sets this without having to do it manually. EDIT: Far as I know at least just setting the device option won't stop WU from trying to load new drivers. EDIT: Huh so perhaps it's been changed recently? Interesting.
This never used to work, so I thought I would try again, in device manager, uninstalled device driver, set it the way you said, rebooted, hello It worked
I had issues also back when win10 first came out that is why I waited a while before updating to win10. Yesterday I installed win10 with my own custom recovery patition. Installed my oem video driver and wireless driver then set this setting and all is good on my end...finally. lol Group policy is not in home edition. Not an option for those of us using win10 home. The method mentioned on first post is working now so give it a try.
I didnt know about it mentioned in another post, sorry. If a mod wishes to delete this thread, they can. I was just sharing what I found out yesterday after installing win10 home edition.
I know it's been discussed before, but don't know when exactly it started working, the last time I tried it did not, but don't remember when that was. The bottom line is this appears to work now, The_Guardian works on alot of MDL projects in the background, so gave it a shot, glad I did.
I also had the infos on this matter: that setting did not work. But you say now it is working, well maybe. Maybe needs more testing, I mean to say.
Grant you I have all updates that I installed from audit mode so my system and recovery is up to date.
Will this be used in rs_prerelease editions, where there is a new option to disable WU drivers installs?
Until a update kicks it back on. lol Better to use M$ settings instead if it works. No need for workarounds now.
No one knows until final release is released. Setting might carry over but unsure until it comes out on windows updates.
"BITS is one of the crucial services to download Windows Updates."... thats one of the reasons why i disable it. I download them manually.
Finally we can stop driver downloads... Could it be done via gpedit.msc setting now or only by unticking "Download drivers" in Settings app?
