I have a New Acer that had Windows 7 Home Premium on it, I used the key that is listed on the site for
Ultimate , and ran the anytime upgrade, worked great, and passes the new WAT test.
What I would like to know is after I backup the key, and cert is how to import the cert back.
I want to reformat, and take full advantage of my harddrive, and get all the extra junk off of it.

Thank You to anyone who can help on this.

you can backup and restore your activation with paymyrent's Token restore tool for retail/slp.

Use paymyrents token restore program to backup your current activation, save it to a thumb drive, do your clean install and then use the same utility to restore your activation. The app will backup tokens.dat pkeyconfig.xrm-ms and the product key used. If after installing you decide to upgrade the version you allready know how to do that, to downgrade an isntallation takes much more time and is a bit tricky (since it involves a "upgrade" install).

I take it this tool is just a simpler verison of the SLIC-DUMP-ToolKit?

I personally just used the SLIC-DUMP-ToolKit, didn't know about the Token restore tool...

    THANKS

nope its not. my app does a backup of the full tokens.dat, pkeyconfig.xrm-ms, and the current product key. those files are used to store the activation info. then my app restores them to activate windows offline on the same hardware config you used to activate your key. it may look like it does the same thing but it doesnt.

Oh so taking and restoring in the original format.

Any advantages over going the other way?

Also when running your tool on a clean install to restore, are there going to be any registry entries of your tool any footprints left behind?

    THANKS

So your tool would be an actual backup of the actual files, whereas the SLIC dump toolkit is just pulling out the info?

    THANKS

the toolkit can make a backup of the cert(only part of tokens.dat) and key. mine makes a backup of the activation files.

LOL, you replied before I could edit it, since you answered in the other post... ;)

Hey don't get me wrong GREAT tool you made, but I'm geek enough if it can be done by hand and I'm not going to kill myself I do like to play around then... :)

    THANKS

P.S. I can't believe that M$ made this so simple as to only needing to back and copy these files to by pass all of this, sheesh not much of security IMHO...

What i am trying to do is a format of my hard drive reinstall Windows 7, without all the bloat from Acer.
My problem is when I try and reactivate with the tool provided by paymyrent it won't reactivate.
I downloaded the Digital River download, and removed the ei.cfg file.
Am I using the wrong version DVD to do this with?
