How to go back form Windows 8 Pro with Media Center to Windows 8 Pro

It doesn't work. You have to reinstall.

I haven't tried it, but I expect the trick for "downgrading" Windows 7 applies here as well: Edit the registry, change EditionID to "Professional" and ProductName to "Windows 8 Pro" (HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version), run setup and do an upgrade.

BTW, this trick also allowed me to upgrade Windows 7 Enterprise to Windows 8 Pro by changing "Enterprise" to "Ultimate" - normally Enterprise cannot be upgraded to anything.

Let us know how it goes.

 

The amount of time that it took to figure all of this out and not have it work you could have done a clean install.

Can I downgrade my Windows 8 edition without reintallation ?

 

I tried to remove it by using restore points but there's not going back it seems....i'm headed to a reinstall

 

go to
Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features
turn windows features on or off
+ media feature
uncheck windows media centre
wait for loadingand click restart
all done

 

I just upgraded windows 8 release preview to windows 8 pro wmc then did a downgrade to windows 8 pro worked fine !

Tried that, I can't downgrade to Pro from WMC, it says I already have Pro.

any solution ?

 

It says I already have Pro, which is weird cause I actually have Pro with WMC.
