Thanks to some amazing help from abbodi1406, and after spending the past few weeks doing several test installs, I was finally able to create a guide which allows you to install Windows Vista SP2 64-bit and get it up-to-date well past its official April 2017 "end of life" date.

My current install of Windows Vista Business SP2 64-bit is up-to-date to April 2021 because of being able to use both Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 updates.

Here is the link to the guide in the My Digital Life "Windows Vista" section:

    Enjoy! :)

Remember that server 2008 updates don't get correctly installed on Vista even when they say it installed successfully. Don't expect that your system is fully patched after you install those updates so be careful when going online with that operating system.

Vista is build 6002, Server 2008 is at build 6003. Many components of the newer Server 2008 updates have prerequisites Vista cannot fulfill. Thus, they are, in large parts, not applicable.

The October 2020 (KB4579980) security and quality rollup for .NET Framework for Windows Server 2008 64-bit failed to install every time Windows Update detected it. :(

I haven't deployed and used it because I'm not sure if it will have a negative effect on how the Vista_SHA2_WUC tool is currently working.

    Thanks, abbodi1406.
Deploying the .NET 4 ESU bypass tool resolved the issue. :)

Hello, so I am running Vista business 64bit with the windows update patch. I believe I installed all the available updates (385+ updates) for Vista and Server 2008 which took almost 24 hours to complete lol. Everything installed fine, even additional updates, but I have one issue... The February 2021 (KB4603005) security and quality rollup for .NET Framework for Windows Server 2008 64-bit. This update is failing to install and giving me an error. Why so?

You probably need to deploy the dotNetFx4_ESU_Bypass_Vista.7z tool like I had to do.
