Just stick to MSE which was re-branded to Windows Defender (old windows defender gone, replaced by MSE) on W8, so there already IS a solution on the WDP

why are yo folks double stacking the AV software.
It don't make sense. MSE {Now Defender} is already built it this. LOL

you can stop defender, no problem: open C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exe
Go to Settings/Administrator & untick use this program and real time protection. Additional you can stop the Windows Defender Service and set it to disabled.
BTW, it's a real lousy protection, especially getting virus infected emails from "UPS" daily it's very insecure that way.

MBAM is an alternative software that works.

it detects the most common malware, but only a small percentage of the evil bytes out in the wild, security essentials is the same case.
okay, it's free but security essentials is still a basic protection. I bought a software and it had a virus inside - MSE did not detect it, virustotal shows the malware.

I didnt have a Virus, Adware or Spyware since XP. While i wouldnt recommend using Windows without any solution, you don't need the best on the market to protect yourself from you (if you have some Logic to detect Malware/Spyware and Scam before even downloading anything)
Services like SmartScreen for IE, WOT for everything else also protect well from Scam/Malware sites if you can't detect them on your own.

    you're right

... but not if you pay for software, and there are no bad reports on WOT or anywhere in the web.
Even when it's a generic virus it's hard to detect. I can upload an example if you like it: a paid software for $80, troy inside, no reports
The app developer tells it's a copyright protection. Virustotal does not detect any malware in the installer, but when you upload the zipped program folder to virustotal you'll get the truth.

    Smart Man....

Completely agree with you , 20 years on PC world from Win 3.1 to today Win8 Wdp, never get a virus, malware, spyware or other s**tty stuff, furthermore i've downloaded about of 50 terabyte of movies, programs, music and some games(obviously big part deleted.... he he i've never space for 50 1Tb HD....:dunno:)

Smart downloading and mail attachments opening is better solution to all antiviruses that usually slowes down PC performance, sometimes in a strong way.....:wallbash:

MSE called defender now, is the better solution till now, is not so heavy and protects you wery well, suggested to all my friends and knowing people, and they have never get a bad crap virus until it Leaves not updated.....

Mind the virus and be smarter:D

Hey, Baadshah! try installing a free version of Revo Uninstaller Pro,it works wonderfully, make sure you choose & delete and remove
thoroughly, pay attention as the directory in "bold" print must be ticked and deleted and click next, bingo works for me.
Get yourself a valid key and voila!,you have AVG installed in a clean directory.
I been using AVG Business 2012 Edition sanitized till whatever year is allowed.
    Good luck chum.
    Cheers Andeangrass.
