How to upgrade from W7/8.1 without going through the complete upgrade process

KMS is volume activation (not usual on private installs) and hwid is oemretail and permanent.

No video needed, the real upgrade is pretty forward, the gatherosstate method (the subject of this thread) is explained in detail at the OP.

 

I have a question regarding this step:

1. Optional: Validate your copy of Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.x
2. Install all necessary drivers e.g. ethernet & wireless card
3. Open your Windows 10 ISO and extract gatherosstate.exe from the sources folder to your desktop
4. Run gatherosstate.exe and wait for the GenuineTicket.xml file to be created
5. Copy the GenuineTicket.xml to a USB thumb drive or something
6. Boot to your Windows 10 USB or DVD and perform a fresh install
7. *Disable your internet connection
8. *Copy GenuineTicket.xml to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\ClipSVC\GenuineTicket\ and then reboot
9. *Connect online and you should be activated

So let's say I have a drive C: and I have Windows 7 Pro enabled there with daz. I run gatherosstate.exe from a Win 10 ISO and I saved the xml file on USB pen. But on step 6, they say "perform a fresh install of windows 10". So should I first format my drive so I clean it from the previous windows 7 install? I assume an upgrade of win 7 to win 10 will not work.

 

fresh install means clean install so yes you wil have to format the drive to perform a clean install
afaik, the upgrade from win7 activated with daz to win10 stills works, if it works, you will end up with win10 activated with hwid.

hwid = digital license.
When you obtain digital license on a machine, this implies that in case you need to reinstall win10 in the future, the activation will be done automatically at the end but you will have to install the same win10 edition as before.

 

I dont really get it. Lets say I do the upgrade method (win 7 with dazloader, then I just upgrade to window10). Result is that I get an hwid activation.

So you are saying that if I format the whole disk and install window 10 on the same computer, it is insantly activated... how? Does the hardware generate an unique identificator and then it tricks the ms servers into thinking its an activated license? so they store this identificator on their servers somehow? hows this from a privacy pov?

I still don't get what the fresh install of win 10 route (after win7 dazloader) does vs just upgrading to win 10.

 

ok i will try to summarize what happens once you obtain a digital license on your machine.
Yes, there is a unique identification codewhicg is generated to identify your machine. MS will associate this unique code with a digital license of Win10 in its database and when you do a clean install of win10, MS will try to find the unique identification code of your machine and check whether it is linked to a Windows 10 digital license or not. If so, your win10 will be activated automatically.

you can either choose between using the GenuineTicket.xml method described in first post which is simple and quicker to get win10 activated with digital license or do an upgrade from win7 to win10 to get HWID. Both methods are working so you will choose the one that best suits you and your needs.

The generated Digital license is bound to the hardware it is generated and established on, when the digital license is established, it's saved at MSFT servers.

So when the digital license is made for pro and when you re-install pro on that hardware, it will contact msft servers and check if it has a digital license, and when it is verified, it will be activated by it.

This gatherosstate route is meant for people who can do or want to do the full upgrade but directly want to do a clean install after generating the genuineticket.xml.

The process is the same as when you would do a full upgrade, only the steps for generating the genuineticket.xml and applying it are used to do all without the need for a full upgrade.

 

Is there a way to activate it without letting MS have an unique id of our pc on their servers? i dont like how that souns

Also, I need to activate the Enterprise one to disable all telemetry. Does this method work then? im asking cause this guy implies you need KMS method because you need to reactivate it every 180 days

This method is only working for (DAZ) Activated 7 SP1 > 10 Home (+N) and Pro (+N).

For enterprise you can use KMS_VL_ALL by @abbodi1406

Tinkering with windows can and will lead to unforseen errors, so i can't tell if it interferes with hwid activation.
