Yes, sp1 was integrated. In my case, would I need to deal with pid.txt and ei.cfg files per Enthousiast's post h??p://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/64770-How-to-upgrade-from-W7-8-1-without-going-through-the-complete-upgrade-process?p=1206253&viewfull=1#post1206253 If so, how? Or just proceed with OP's setp gatherosstate [but from build 10586 iso rather than 10240]. Then clean Install using 10586 iso
Oh wait..sorry need to read.. TBH it is confusing what's posted. I am not sure if your embedded DM key would make problems upgrading to 10586 with the method from post 1....
Well, the only thing that can happen that when you have saved the ticket and go on installing 10586 as it is you cannot choose pro to install since the setup reads the core DM key...it requires then the mentioned modifications if I got this right.
If your 8 machine has a 8 core oemm, at clean/re-installing 10 pro you should use an ei.cfg containing this: Code: [Channel] _Default [VL] 0 It will give you the option to choose during initial setup, select Pro skip the key question during oobe.
Yes. Got it. Open notepad copy and paste the code, save the file with the name "ei.cfg" (use the double-quotes "" while saving the file otherwise Notepad will create a text file with the name ei.cfg.txt). Open your 10586 ISO with ultra iso or the like and copy ei.cfg into Sources folder, save the new ISO (make a backup if wanted before)
@Enthousiast, you wrote "Running the setup from win 7 ultimate will give you 10 pro (only not on a branded system with an embedded windows 8.x Core/10 Home key, then you'll have to use the 10240 iso to upgrade to 10 pro and do a clean install using the 10586 iso combined with eiter a pro pid.txt or an appropiate ei.cfg)" I still would need to run gatherosstate from 10240 [rather than 10586] to obtain genuineticket before using 10586+ei.cfg to clean install. So, can't just disregard use of 10240, correct?
I did not know that the good old ei.cfg I know from w7 to let choose the versions is needed at 10586 again. Good luck with upgrading windNsalsa and have fun with w10. I need to go, late here already. Will check here again tomorrow....should work that way...
Yen made this thread when we still were on 10240, you can use the gatherosstate.exe from 10586 instead of 10240 Because you're using the "gatherosstate and skipping upgrading" route, you don't have to use the 10240 iso at all.
system builder should be key based not hardware ID. I do remember they changed their policy (If I remember right) on system builder and its license agreement. Different stipulations or something.
yea, it ends, it ends, it ENDS!!! Oh my Lord, can't believe in it! I can't wait for this! s**t, i just s**t myself

-This did not give me option to choose Pro vs Home. But, Pro was installed and successfully activated. How did the installation know to choose Pro? -Also, no product key screen appear to skip *Perhaps the 10586 installation automatically grabbed the pro key associated with the embedded oemm ?
