[Not working anymore] How to upgrade from W7/8.1 without going through the complete upgrade process

To perform the free upgrade, you MUST either run setup inside of the windows 8.1, or manually generate the ticket inside of the windows 8.1. This needs his password.

 

If win 8.1 install is currently genuinely activated then all you need to do is run the setup.exe from win 10 consumer iso & wait for usual upgrade process to finish.However if the current win 8.1 install is home & not pro then it will upgrade to win 10 home which is not as good as pro.

 

Yeah... i have tryed to see the corrent edition of 8.1 before to upgrade but I did not find where it was indicated. At this point i have tryed to install the pro edition of windows 10 and infact the .xml file it's not works. Windows say to me somethigs about it's found a home edition keys and ask me to update by store.

 

You can just use VM to install & daz activate a win 7 ultimate install & upgrade it to win 10 pro.Later use NS account to transfer that win 10 pro license to your real pc.

 

mmmmm.... VM and NS it's ? However, install windows 7 ultimate (using "old" Daz Loader) and then upgrade to windows 10 pro it's request a lot time............... do you agree it's not a ideal procedure ?

It is MS account(NS is typo).If doing on ssd then it should not take much time.If on ssd then worst case it will take ~1-1.5hr but then it is a one time exercise.

Just changing mobo is enough to trigger invalid activation.That is why linking free upgrade activation to a MS account option is there for situations like these.One can use MS account to transfer license after changing mobo & reactivate new hardware.

 

Lastly, I’ve phoned Microsoft today. He said that I could not get the license and link to new hardware because I’ve made the upgrade to w10 from an “oem installation”. There would not be issues with other system that I made before an upgrade to w8 baying license via Media Center for a small price 15€ or so. So I think isn’t worth go on whit this and I am going to tray the procedure of Yen post.

 

Just did an in place apps and files retaining upgrade from Windows 8.1 home to Windows 10 home using the ticket method.

Unplugged internet in Win 8.1 > ran GatherState from usb> Got ticket etc > Ran in windows 8.1 Windows 10 setup from Flash drive > Chose no to get updates before upgrade > once it finished and booted to desktop I copied over state ticket and rebooted > On reboot plugged in the internet and it digital licensed.

I know this isn't the best method and a fresh install is preferred but there are times when an upgrade is needed as there is complicated software or network setup etc that need to be retained.

*MOD may want to consider updating the guide to reflect that one can do this with an upgrade as well as a fresh copy in the guide list. - I will report back with further test if issues.

 

On a braswell laptop, I installed Windows 8.1 Pro -> activated with kmspico -> gatherstate to generate ticket & save ticket to USB -> fresh installed Windows 10 Pro 1809 -> copy over ticket -> reboot -> activate internet. However, Windows 10 Pro didn't activate properly. Any idea what I should look into?

I couldn't do a normal upgrade from Windows 8.1 Pro because the installer picks up on the Windows 10 Home license on the motherboard and tries to install Windows 10 Home.

On MSI laptop w/skylake, Win 10 Home license on MB I installed Win 7 Pro Daz activated (had to inject USB 3 drivers into Boot & Install wims) gatherstate to generate ticket & clean installed 10 Pro, activated w/digital license.

 

Upgrading to Windows 10 Pro through 1511 works!

hello, can I use the Daz loader to activate win7 ultimate edition to get a valid Win10 pro license & can I use the latest win10 v1809 for the upgradation & installation or any prefixed win10 version should be used for this process i.e. 15xx or 16xx

Yesterday I upgraded 2 Win7 SLIC activated machines, using v1803

 

I just upgraded a Win7 SLIC activated machine using v1809 and successfully achieved HWID activation. Though I did use the gatherosstate.exe from the v1511 ISO to generate the GenuineTicket.xml.
