[How to] Upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 without phone activate again

    [How to] Upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 without phone activate again

    1.Backup your activation with Windows Advanced Tokens Manager

    2.Upgrade Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 using generic key

    3.Stop the spp service

    4.Replace the tokens.dat file from Advanced Tokens Manager/Windows Activation Backup to system32/spp/store/2.0

    5.Rename the data.dat file to cache.dat file and replace the cache.dat file from system32/spp/store/2.0/cache folder with the renamed cache.dat file

    6.Start the spp service and insert the key wich you activated over the phone by using command pormpt with slmgr -ipk command.

    Sorry for bad english (f there are mistakes please correct me).If it was posted before delete this post!

    This guide is for Pro to Pro upgrade not for wmc.

    Its working only for Windows 8 phone activated with retail key systems.

    Press the Windows + R keys and type services.msc and then find Software Protection and click the stop button.

    easy way run in elevated command prompt "net stop sppsvc"...

    Thanks for new way of activation, will test it...

    Wow this worked on a clean install of 8.1 wmc restoring my previous windows 8 wmc backup :)

    sorry, now even i am confused i dont think you can activate win 8.1 completely offline, you need to use either phone or online, just that a valid *.dat file will allow/accept your wmc key and activate it either way.so i believe OP meant to say online activation is possible.

    ps: even for this method to work a previous *.dat file should have a retail key connection [ my guess }


    @op can you say weather your windows 8 pro was retail actvated?
