    Hello

My install of W7 ultimate 64x SP1 is failing.
Sometimes it will boot, sometimes not, retrying eventually gets it going.
When running the system will freeze for periods, sometimes after a few minutes running again, sometimes needing a reboot.
    Repair failed to fix.

As its been installed for a few years a clean reinstall (getting rid of accumulated detritus) wouldn't be a bad thing, but then I'd loose all personalisations and tweaks etc.
A upgrade reinstall would I thought allow me to keep my personalisations and tweaks etc.

So I tried the upgrade reinstall and that failed with a message along the lines of 'the installed (OS) version is newer than the (OS) version I was trying to upgrade to'. The on USB to install version being W7 ultimate 64x no service pack and no updates - which would all be downloaded latter.

    My question
Is there a way to get upgrade to run and downgrade the version
Or am I looking at a clean reinstall

    Thanks for any help
