I've tried to update a bios because my HP Compaq 6715b was 'hanging' on the boot page with the "Press F9 for Setup..." etc. So I downloaded the BIOS Floppy (Freedos) update F07 from the HP site and created a floppy. So far, so good. Then I booted from the floppy using WIN-B, the CAPS-LOCK licht started flashing and the Wireless led turned on. The floppy drive started up (and was spinning for a while) and I released the WIN-B key's. So far, so good. After a 10 minutes the laptop restarted as expected and then DEAD....... :-( The power led starts, the fan starts, but nothing else. I've removed the CMOS battery (CR2032) and left the laptop without power for over an hour, no change. Pressing WIN-B now does nothing anymore, no boot from floppy, USB nor CD boot drive. I cannot make it do anything. When I insert a USB drive in one of the ports the USB drive flashes rapidly (only in 1 of the 4 USB ports), but that's it. Can someone tell me what else I can try? Or any other suggestions to re-install the bios? All help will be apriciated.
Hi Sebus, Thanks for your reply. Did not work for me, pressing the four arrow key's while turning the power on has no effect, the floppy drive does not even spin. Is there a way to 'hard' reset the bios on the motherboard to factoy defaults?
The recovery procedure is the ONLY way (apart from unsoldering it & programming in external programmer, and then soldering back or sending it to HP for repairs. which would be way to expensive for that old notebook) If the notebook way playing up before BIOS update maybe it went dead on its own eventually There was no need for WIN-B BIOS update when the notebook was still alive... You are following properly: Copy the bin file of the BIOS on the diskette. eg:68YHV.BIN and not ROM.BIN The floppy needs NOT be bootable! sebus
Hi! Acutally I have the exactly the same problem with 6715b: BIOS hanged on entering Boot Menu, BIOS, or Network boot. I used HP Floppy Drive to update BIOS, but after the update the computer is dead: no caps lock lights, not possible to boot from floppy anymore. Tried everything suggested above. Any ideas more?
