So you think its the screen itself and not the inverter?i do see that small green, looks like a wrapped wire.

If you have a spare good backlight/ccfl tube you could fit that and if it lights up nice and bright the invertor is good, but they are quite reliable these days and I still say the screen is kaput

I can see the screen and move around just fine. The backlight is on. I was wondering if the inverter would cause something like this or something else? I would hate to buy a new screen if it was something else If there is something else that would cause this? check pictures

obviously you need to check the ribbon/cable connections both ends from motherboard and on the back of the screen to check all is good(cables again unless you have pinched or badly fitted it go wrong). Inverter an be checked by a friendy eletronic repairer if you know one. I have replaced lots of screens yet to replace a inverter.

Ya I think your right on the screen as no matter were i look online it says that when a inverter or lamp go out there would be no picture. The reason I didnt think it was the screen is because I wasnt messing with the computer and the whole screen went to lines at the same time. I thought when a screen goes that the lines would show up slowly. Not all at once. Its weird because I wasnt even touching the computer when all the lines showed up.

Yeah you did the right thing you checked it on an external monitor and say its perfect so the good thing is the GPU is good. Screens can go bad defo small electronic components on the edge of it, so have to be careful not to really touch or put pressure on them.

when you say models do you mean manufacturers?, when ordering if it states your model then your good to go then you have some come back if it dont fit but cant see that happening

ok, supadupa.i downloaded the repair manual.I took it all apart and still no HP spare part #. But there is a model # but not for HP. It is a LG display part#: LP171WP4 TL N2 ...I sure hope thats it as every cable was snug and seated right. though the main cable to the screen was sqiushed a littls as they route it right next to the left hinge..
