Just received my Windows 7 Upgrade DVD from HP for the DV7-1020US laptop.
And Suprise suprise the BIOS update on the disc has no 2.1 SLIC in it.
Its the same one you can download from the website.
Did anyone received theirs for the same or similar laptop and have the same experience?
I just need to confirm this.
Isn't it suppose to have SLIC 2.1?

There is a product key on the sleeve.
there is 2 disc one with bios and drivers (not all of it), other disc just windows.
The product key is just a regular retail key needs to be activated over the internet or phone.
Yuo can also do clean install with it.

    Ewww. :(

Alone for that reason I wouldn't use the HP Upgrade Program, even if I was entitled to it.

I had a same situation for a friend who got the HP upgrade disks. Found a Bios mod for his computer and loaded Win7 Home Premium and now it is activated without any problems.

It seems that it was a waste of time waiting for those discs as I thought it would have an updated Bios somewhere on there.

Clean install is the best way to go.

I beleive something to do with your machine's product life. If HP is not going to produce anymore or near the end e.g. newer chipsets have matured in the market already, they may not put additional effort to support BIOS updating. The easiest thing would be a retail dvd to you guys. I have found HP's 6730 (launched around Aug 2008) series have updated BIOS. Therefore it may be just individual cases and not blanket policy.

Just guessing, may be I am wrong.:D

    HP Upgrade Discs

all of the HP UPGRADE DISCS i have laid my hands on all go by the RETAIL channel so it's useless for us... I was hoping to find OEM:SLP CHANNEL but to my disappointment its RETAIL CHANNEL..

I Think I'd just use the Discs for Display...
Thank You HP for a Very Nice Wall Decorative...

HP finally sent their upgrade set for one of my desktops. I received no Slic update, lol, matter of fact no Bios update either.

The key on the Disc sleeve for me was a Non-SLP OEM.

Since I can't obtain the Original Bios for the PC and they seem to have no interest in updating it as of now, I just slapped what they sent on the PC. I've had a 7 Ultimate x64 iso for awhile now, but I figure till they update the Bios or I find a modded one I'll keep their free upgrade on there. I use 7 x64 Ultimate in a VM, under Xp anyway, so I'm not missing anything.

    Disappointed, but hey.:p

Yep. Anyway on HP website you can find the latest BIOS for your pc and I'm sure it's a 2.1

I bought my DV6 in june with Vista and F24 2.0 Bios... now updated it to current F36 which is 2.1... and I could perfectly upgrade to W7 OEM with Slp key provided here...

Just downlowad the latest bios from the Windows 7 section of your HP model :)

Yes, non-slp or retail do NOT need ANY SLIC, but require ONLINE activation instead

Yeah I checked it out and F.2C is 2.0...

Since this Bios has been released on 08/2009 I can only wish you that HP will deliver a newer one soon

I'm pretty sure HP will not be releasing any BIOS update with 2.1 SLIC in it soon. This is because people taking advantage of SLIC 2.1 in activating windows has increased and the knowledge of this has increased too. I believe they are working with M$.

I ordered for an HP HDX-16T recently and I'm entitled to a free upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium. The latest BIOS update from HP for HP HDX do not have SLIC 2.1 in it so, I did not bother to order for upgrade kit, rather, I did a BIOS mod and now I'm running windows 7 Ultimate.

    I have remained activated since.

LittleMac77, do not expect any BIOS with 2.1 SLIC in it soon from HP. They ain't gonna do that and I'm sure it's deliberate.

If your want to run Windows 7 without buying a retail licence, then use Daz loader (most reliable and respected loader), or go for the more risky but most reliable option of BIOS mod.

Nah I was writing for Robi40... as I said before my latest bios update is F36 (November 2009) and that's 2.1! So my HP DV6-1025em is now running a full genuine W7Pro

EDIT: Guess what? Today HP released an even newer Bios for my DV6: I'm now on F.41 ;)

Good to hear about that. HP released a latest BIOS for HP HDX 16T same period and it still didn't have SLIC 2.1 in it. Enjoy!

it's not that HP isn't going to release BIOS files with SLIC 2.1 in them it is that the machines are out of lifecycle and they came with Vista thus they will never get an upgrade to a SLIC 2.1 table.

If a machine is in life cycle and they will sell it with 7 preinstalled then it will contain the SLIC needed for OEM activation.

HP is not stupid enough to release an updated BIOS with an SLIC 2.1 table just because that is the latest and greatest version in a BIOS. I have systems that came with XP that were entitled to Vista upgrades but they never had SLIC 2.1 tables in the BIOS.
