    I had to do a fresh custom reinstall of Windows 7 HP Upgrade again for my father, but this time I get a pop-up stating it won't active without Vista being preinstalled.

    Is there a way around this?

    There is, namely a copy of a non-upgrade image.

    (Which will never give you any problems, no matter whether you upgrade or fresh-install.)

    If you would prefer not to pay for Acronis check out the award winning free utility Easeus Todo Backup. There is a thread in the Applications section of the forum. I have been using Easeus and it is both simple and powerful.
