I give up trying to get my Windows 8.1 to show the Windows 10 reserve button. It's not going to work. But does this mean I cannot get it for free? When it's released via Windows Update in July, can I download it then and have my Windows 8.1 key be good to go with Windows 10? Or does it have to be now?
I have done all the fixes imaginable. None work. So back to my original question, will I be able to upgrade in late July?
use Microsoft Toolkit to backup your windows 8 key if it is a Genuine windows key then do a fresh install of Windows 8.1 and activate by phone using the key that you backed up on the toolkit then update all updates you should see the icon
just relax. I have 3 systems two have the icon the 3rd does not and also has Win 7 x64.. no mods nothing all legit yet win 7 x64 all updates yet no icon. Yet I am 100% sure I will get the update icon or not. Some times you have to just wait. If one really bought it then relax.. it will show up.. or go to the site posted SOMEWHERE here and just click the "RESERVE" .. done.
So the only method I did not try is one where I go to the site. When they link it, it's always a dead MS site. Can someone relink it?
Try one last thing. Go to this website and follow their instructions. I almost gave up too but it totally worked for me. At least on two of my laptops. On my desktop it just went into a loop and I had to stop it. I'm in the process of reinstalling Windows on that one. Someone else on this site posted the link. I tried to find him but I gave up. Good luck. h p://techdows.com/2015/06/how-to-enable-get-windows-10-app-icon-windows-7-or-8-1-taskbar.html
still hasn't answered what edition the win8.1 is. Any type of Volume edition and there is no free upgrade.
Should a Windows 8 from Toshiba Laptop be supported for a free upgrade? I am still waiting for notification, hopefully sometime tomorrow! In addition, I believe the Dreamspark editions are not included in the free upgrade.
The way I understand it, you have to be on 7 Or 8.1 to qualify. hXXps://twitter.com/GabeAul/status/606827002344177664
well I went to answers microsoft.. blah blah and someone posted a dropbox link for a bat win10fix_full.bat (search that bat file and it will take you to Microsoft answers page) that fixed windows 8.1 and win 7 x64. Both were legit.. yet from some reason the icon never popped up. I used this bat and both worked great. you can scan and edit the bat to see what it does if your scared.. anyway..
execute in cmd.exe C:\Windows\System32\GWX\GWX.exe (winows tray icon app) - then reserve windows 10. on my new installed windows 8.1 - it takes 5 days, before i became a notification.
Is there any funny AV crap running on your machine which might block this particular connection to MS server?
