ok so currently for my router i have a linksys wrt54G version 2.2 flashed with ddwrt firmware. was great when i was on roadrunner turbo. had speeds of 15mbps down and .745 kbps up. i recently upgraded to roadrunner wideband. 50mbps down and 5mbps up. on my desktop i am taking full advantage of this cause of it being wired to cat5 and the ports on the router are 100mbps as well as my card in desktop. my laptop which has a 802.11n wireless card is only seeing 14mbps down while seeing the full 5mbps up. as i understand my old wireless is 54mbps on the router. for bands b/g. i sprung and bought a cisco/linksys E1000 which is nband 300mbps wirelessly. i will be flashing custom ddwrt firmware as soon as it arrives. so i guess my question is how much faster is the n? will i reach the full speed of my connection like my wired desktop?
Providing your wireless NIC connects and is compatible with 802.11n then you should see the full bandwith of your connection.
ya my card is a DW1501 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card broadcom 802.11n it says so sweet. thats what i am hoping for. its in a studio 1558 fully loaded.
so why i wait for my n router. my wife came home with one she is borrowing from her brother. so i replaced my g based with it for now till mine shows. all i can say is wow. so much of a difference like im on a cable. so fast. i am very happy.
