    So here is my dilemma
I would like to access my backup files over the internet. ( I Dont want to carry my portable hard drive all the time)

I was looking at choices like using a NAS(one with 2 bays at least), hp mediasmart server(ex495), or a hp proliant ML310 server.

I was inclining using raid 1 but i need the hd to be the same size and model(i think).something i dont like much (is this true?)

    thank you for everyone
    help & recommendation

Yes RAID 1 is mirroring so you need two of the same drive and it makes identical copies.

If you don't need instant backup you can try software like Acronis True Image to backup to any kind of drive every night or every hour etc.

    yes I agree,

there a many choices out there. But mainly involved a cloud service.

now the option of having a home media server SOHO like the ex 495 or proliant, is that you can have a tera or more. I'm not saying that you could do the same with a cloud service.

    But

having a home media server or NAS or something similar, give you access to it and more control of you data
