    Can we change file icons in windows 7 without installing any crap softwareo_O??

    I think you mean the system icons for files and folders? Yes you can, this topic will likely provide the information you need about the process. It involves changing images in DLL's and EXE's with a hex editor like Restorator 2007: http://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/12713-Windows-7-Theme-amp-Resource-Mods
    If you do not want to do this yourself, various themes and icon sets can be found all over the internet (Deviantart, some on these forums) which you can install by replacing the files in your system with the ones provided.

    If you do mean the shortcut icons on your desktop: rightclick > properties > shortcut > change icon.
