Hello MDL Forum. I got an Idea for a School Project, since all of my School Attendees seem to be Rotted, i wanted to make a Presentation about Safety in the Internet for my Class ( I am 17) and neighboring Classes and their Teachers. Its gonna be called: Oops, your important files have been Encrypted! Examples of War Crimes in the Net. At my School they have many Spare DDR3 Equipped PCs with what i can only assume are 64-Bit Processors, and i would run a Version of Hyper-V Core on it, just for the Hell of it. I will then make all Networks damn private, then i will demonstrate on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 7, Windows 8 / 2012 and 10 / 2016 on how WannaCry and Petya f**ked the Internet, and what they did and what happened as the Aftermath. Like how people died in Hospitals as SQL Server Databases and Spreadsheets failed due to Ransomware like Wcry. After Hyper-V was installed, the Server / PC will have not Network Connection, so the School is totally safe
I think that's a valid point. While the idea of demonstrating the impact of WannaCry and Petya on different Windows operating systems is a good one, using real malware can be a significant risk, even if you're taking precautions like disconnecting from the network. Using the EICAR test file or a harmless program like "Fly-on-Desktop" can be a safer and more controlled way to demonstrate the concept of malware and its effects on a system. It's also worth considering that using real malware, even in a controlled environment, can be against the terms of service of your school's IT department, and may also be against local laws and regulations. Overall, I think it's a good idea to take a more cautious approach and use simulated malware or harmless programs to demonstrate the concept, rather than using real malware.
