Hello, over the past week I have done extensive testing on different os, my system is an older one but still works great, phenom x4 cpu, 8gb ram, 1gb radeon hd7750 ddr5 gpu, 500 gb hd nothing special, does what I need it to do really anyways with my system, windows 10 using more ram at idle than even 7, little less than 800mb, I found this hard to believe but do you know what os was using the least ram? yup, original windows 8.0??! only 450mb, 8.1.1 was around the same, maybe a bit more do you guys find 10 using rather high idle ram? thanks
Windows 8 and above using other memory management if there more memory it use it to prefech kernel so when its needed, its ready to execute
there a app "rammap" its not working on windows 10 for now ,cant be sure whats going up there is it clean install / did u install the newest drivers ?
yup, all clean installs, same drivers, re-installed numerous times, same results, must be my system loves win 8.0! HAHA
UNUSED RAM IS WASTED RAM. All that is being cached so your software open faster. Learn to modern memory managment. When you open anything that would need more RAM the cached ram is freed instantly. Using "Ram cleaners" are placebo and actually make you system slower. And your tests are pretty inconclusive because you haven't used all those OSes for more than 1 week with plenty of software installed. For me, 7, 8.1 or 10 use 1.5gb+ idle ram or more.
No they are not, they solve problems with BSOD due to insufficient RAM and so on. Sure saved me from buying more RAM. Memory management in Windows has a memory loopback problem, an app asks for RAM, system reports, that there is not enough RAM, even though it is just preloaded RAM for another app, which is not being used. It has not been fixed, because they always quote, that it is superfetch, well ... .
well to be honest I'm just pretty damn curious why on a fresh install, right out of the box, 10 is using like double ram at idle compared to say 8, well due to more services running, more spying services maybe, LOL
