Hi all. Can I use any copy of Windows 7 Professional with my key? The OEM disk is long gone and don't have the time or inclination to order a new physical disk from HP.

Do you currently have W7 installed on the machine?

Hi redroad, yes and no. There's a very messed up installation of Windows 7 enterprise. I figured I would just start over.

Been told the valid key should work with the digital river version found here on MDL. That would be a great relief!

If your COA sticker says: Windows 7 Professional OA, you will deffinitly be set regardless of you having your your SLIC certs if you do standard generic Windows re-installation.

    Thanks but :(

On a computer running a Microsoft Windows non-core edition, run 'slui.exe 0x2a0xC004015' to display the error text"

If I run that command it takes me to validation thing and i put the key in and it tells me this key won't work with Professional "N".

Are you talking about new installation or the one you had installed ?

You never mentioned in any previous post you were using Windows 7 N. Windows 7 N has completely different licencing from Normal Windows 7.

Not your fault! I am starting from scratch. And I didn't realize the mydigitalife article was linking to "N" nor did I realize this would prove to be fatal :p

Starting again with a hopefully straight copy of Professional...
