    Hello everyone,

I have an Acer laptop with Vista Home Basic installed. It came pre-activated, and I'm fairly certain that the BIOS has the necessary certificate information in it.

My question is, can I perform an in-place upgrade of Vista to Ultimate? I have a copy of the installation DVD, and I have the appropriate CD key.

Since it came with Home basic, it most likely has the required SLIC table. You have to reinstall if you want to upgrade to Ultimate. But before you do that, I would advise you to extract the certificate from the Home Basic installation as I do not know if it the same as the one currently available on the net. After you install Ultimate, you have to manually apply the certificate and the Ultimate key.

If the CD key you have is retail, then you don't have to worry about the certificate.
