I always had great success with Nero 5.5 under XP but it won't install in Windows 7. I tried Infrarecorder but I'm getting too many bad burns. ImageBurn is free but it makes me create an .iso before I can burn a disc, which seems like a waste of time. Can some smart person recommend something free and good for the 32 bit version of Windows 7? OH, but I haven't tried XP Mode to see if I can still use Nero 5.5... I have run XP Mode but it did a sketchy job of grabbing USB devices so I abandoned it. Glitchy crap!! lol
Have you tried the native built-in functionality? Drag files/folders directly onto DVD drive, tell it to "burn" them... I cannot remember the last time I used a Nero, Roxio, similar software to burn a disc but I haven't needed one since I got off of XP.
Thank you thank you thank you! Thanks 1,000,000 for all the suggestions, I'll play with them all. But re: the native disc burning with Windows... I never liked XP's burning compared to Nero, but heck, I'm willing to let Billy Gates's pals have another chance. Thanks again, all!! - - - oh! ps!: I installed XP Mode and it is as I feared... my beloved old Nero 5.5 doesn't work properly on this Windows 7 box. And speaking of XP Mode, WTF is the deal with the XP image I downloaded from MS? It says "service pack 3" but it has IE 6, not IE 8, and it lacks 127 other updates. Why the blazes anyone would create and offer an out-of-date VM image is beyond me! lol
I'm using Nero 15 Micro (40meg, 120 installed) for music and data DVDs and Imageburn for ISO's and haven't had a problem in years.
HALIKUS I didn't realize they were up to Nero 15 yet. If you don't mind me asking where did you get Nero 15 micro from? budzos
BUDZOS, thanks so much, you've given me hope that I may be able to still use Nero and without all the new friggin' bloat! (but i'm still going to try out all the other suggestions here too) Thanks again!! -----EDIT----- Nero 8 Lite: Just what I like! THANKS AGAIN!!
Nero 15 I am still using nero 9 micro 28mb only really use it for burning music cd's i,e converting mp3's or if I may want to copy multiple dvd's or cd's. Normally use UltraISO for most things.
Hello khagaroth, Well, I guess I expressed it incorrectly. Start a project, hit 'burn to a compact disc', and it spends a long while "building image", whereas in Nero 5.5 I could tell it to burn and it just burned immediately.
Yes I agree nothing is for free now, you need to watch when installing and make sure you read the options it could be installing google chrome or tool-bar or some other I would say advertising spam ware.
