okay so before anyone give me the "search" answer, ive beeen reading over a dozen threads trying to figure out this whole slp nonsense and i just cant get it.
i have a gateway laptop that came with MCE 2005 preloaded, it crashed and i couldnt find my resore disk so i downloaded an untouched "OEM" version instead of paying gateway for a new disk.
now im at the product key entry page, i tried putting in tthe key stuck on the bottom of my laptop but it wont work, ive tried several slp keys listed here and they arent working either. am i missing something? i shouldnt have to mess with the bios if my laptop already had MCE on it correct?

    dumb question erased. hah.

allright so riddle me this: i downloaded the untouched XP MCE ISO, imported the BIOS files and followed the directions in the post on creating a OEM SLP iso. i just got everything installed but it didnt install media center! now i have XP Pro. not that theres a huge difference but i was just curious as to why this happened..?

makes sense.. well thanks for the simplified directions,
i should have slipstreamed all my drivers beforehand though.. doing it manually is a pain in the ass
