install.wim

    I'm having trouble installing W7 on my Dell Latitude D630 due to a 'cant find install.wim' error. The DVD is a pukka Dell but my drive and two I've borrowed from colleagues just struggle with it. I can however boot from the dvd and install ok on a very old desktop pc with a x8 dvd rom.
    Short of using an ide/usb coverter to use the old drive on the laptop I can't think of a work around.

    Is there anything I should know?

    pukka dell?

    Older desktop oc works with the same dvd ?


    Id take a look at the ram, hdd and maybe psu.

    You can make a win7 bootable usb and install from that. There are numerous guides around, just google for "usb win7 install" or something similar.

    Thanks for that Venu - I've got a 16Gb flash drive still in the packet so I'll try that route
