Hello I have been running an activated vista on my system for last 3 weeks along with sp1 but today it started behaving differently. When i logged on to vista today it started searching for drivers of cd rom, web camera and usb wheel mouse, although these drivers were already installed but windows kept on searching for drivers and at the end gave this error "windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it" "this operation requires an interactive window station" I tried cleaning trash files and my registry but to no avail. now every time i start windows i get this message for searching drivers and in the end drivers of these products are not installed. So now i cannot use my cdrom, my usb mouse and web camera. I am using PS2 mouse now. Is there anyone know how to resolve this problem. Thanks
Thanks for answering I did as you said and deleted infcache.1 file in windows inf folder. But problem still persists and windows did not created new infcache.1 file itself. So i am getting same prompts of driver installation as i was getting before. One other thing i would like to mention here that 2 days before this thing happened to my windows, i got a pop up screen saying that you are using a software to counterfeit windows, there was something listed as a software there and at the bottom there was a line saying that this window will apear only once. My windows poperties still say that it is activated so i did not took notice of that prompt. I wonder may be windows SP1 has something to do with this problem and the only solution is to install new copy of window and then ignore SP1 installation. Tell me if i am right.
Ok then lets do it the hard way, but for now lets try to fix only the CD/DVD ROM and see if it wroks, if it does we will do it for the rest of the drivers. 1. Open the Device Manager. 2. Under the section DVD/CD ROM Drives there should be a device with problem drivers. 3. Right click on it and select Update Driver. 4. On the next window click Browse my Computer for driver software. 5. Click on Let me pick... 6. Click on Have disk. 7. Browse for the folder: C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\cdrom.inf_a29e71c6 8. Open the inf file and folow the instructions. Hope this does it. About the warning you got..you are propably using timer carck or paradox, the update 940510 detects it, but doesbt desables it, try using Vista Loader 2.1.2 or newer. Note. The name of the folder cdrom.inf_229e71c6 is changed to cdr om.inf_229e71c6 by the forum.
i did as you said but now the message is "the system cannot find the file specified". what should i do next. and i could not understand the note at the end of ur message.
Note. The name of the folder cdrom.inf_229e71c6 is changed to cdr om.inf_229e71c6 by the forum. There is no folder with this name in there
