I have Presario CQ61 - I am replacing the (crashed) HDD (Fujitsu) with a new WD 320Gb drive.
I have installed the new drive but now get the message "no bootable device" so I load from CD (try new Windows 7 install) but gets part way through then get message that "a problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage etc etc etc..........."

I have run Insyde (BIOS) diagnostics and seems to recognise there is a HDD installed.

So question is why is the HD not recognised?
IS this a BIOS problem and if so how do I change the BIOS on startup

I can only boot from F: Drive (CD) so need a utility that is bootable from there

or is it simpler than I imagine

odie - The Laptop is DEAD without this disk!! No operating system - original BIOS which is very limited which does recognise that there is a HDD but thats about it...... WD have been slack when I have asked questions about the same issue (ie no response and HP ain't any better.......) So there fore I cannot use any MS tools.. nand anyway i don't think this is an MS issue!!

download ultimateboot disk "free" from ultimatebootcd . com/ it gives you loads of free tools to format new disks or check your system for errors
