hey guys, installing windows 7 on my new computer never done this before but im on the partition part.. I want to divide my 1TB into 3 parts 200GB - OS/Programs 120GB - Projects/Kits 680GB - Data/Music/Pictures etc. what do I do? right now it shows "Disk 0 Unallocated Space - 931.5GB" do I click on 'new' and keep making the drives as stated above by putting hte amount of 'MB' and hten choose the drive i want for OS and click next?
Just create the first Partition for the OS 200GB if you create that it will also create an 100MB Parttion (System Reserved), which is OK. Install your Windows complertely. After that Create the other partition via Disk Management and all will be just fine.
200GB - OS/Programs that is quite large for OS drive 60GB would probably do especially for backing up and restoring.
If you want to fine tune your partition sizes, and have greater control (I think), a third party program may be your best bet. I like GPartEd but there are others. Like urie, 200GB for a system partition seems very large. I usually go with 50 or 60GB and I've never had a problem.
OR use the whole drive during install, and work out your partitions after windows 7 is up and running, using disk management. Then you can clean up windows reserved partition at the same time, if you care to remove it etc etc.
