Hi i'm marco from Italy. I'm new on this forum so i want to introduce myself. I purchased a notebook from notebookguru.de one year ago, it's based on a Compal NBLB2 notebook and the BIOS is from Insyde BIOS h2o. I saw there's an update on the official site of compal and i downloaded. It doesn't works in 64 bit evironment, then i tried on 32bit and it requires pure dos, then i created a bootable USB with the update inside, it's recognized but after that it fails, telling me the dimensions of the ROM don't correspond to what i have downloaded. Why? There's some possibilities to update from my version F0.3 to F10? Thank you all for your help
First of all, thank you for your help. This is what aida64 shows me: BIOS properties: Vendor: INSYDE Version: F.03 Release Date 01/28/2010 Size: 1536 KB Boot Device: Floppy Disk, Hard Disk, CD-ROM Capabilities: Flash BIOS, Shadow BIOS, Selectable Boot, EDD, BBS Supported Standards: DMI, ACPI Expansion Capabilities: PCI, USB System BIOS Date: 01/28/10 Video BIOS Date: 12/14/09 BIOS manufacturer: Insyde Technology, Inc. MOTHERBOARD properties: Manufacturer: Compal Product: NBLB2 Version: base board version Motherboard ID: <DMI> Motherboard name: compal NBLB2 BUS type: Intel QPI If you think i should look for other infos, just tell me!
yes it is... but you know, i can't post external links because i've got less than 20 posts if you want to know exactly what the bios tells me when i'm tryin to upgrade, i ll do another test and i ll write down the message.
this is what appears on my screen: Insyde flash Utility for InsydeH2O Version 1.3wBeta10 Initializing Error: this ROM file isn't correct. Error: ROM size 21E000 Current BIOS size: 200000 I've tried to upgrade at boot, with an USB drive (1GB) formatted in FAT with the HP formatting tool. I haven't possibility to use pendrives with less capacity. Any suggestion?
Are you running the flash.bat in the update, the command line in the batch file is: flas**t NBLBXF10.FD /ecb /all Some of the strings in the flas**t executable suggest that they have some sort of format where the bios and some other data are merged into one file which might explain why the file is larger than the program is expecting. The strings that make me thing its some odd merged file format are these: /ECB Flash EC (by applicaion) with BIOS (by IHISI).. /EOB Only flash BIOS when EC and bios are merge.. If you arent using the flash.bat or the command line above to start the flash process try that and see if that sorts the error out. As an aside flas**t also seems to accept: /RH Read HDCP key.. there appears to be a command to write this key too, and many other commands whose use i do not know
as i said, i did a bootable usb pen, in which i added the files downloaded with the firmware. the command i execute at the boot is: c:\ flas**t.exe nblbxf10.fd /all where flas**t.exe is the utility for upgrade and nblbxf10.fd is the upgrade. Do you think that your command may damage my notebook? or is it safe to try?
the command i listed is what is in the flash.bat included with the bios update, just boot the usb pen and run flash.bat and it should work
I did it! i executed the flash.bat file and the update started without problems. I can just thank you all, for your help, your attention and your sense of community! Thank you again! Marco
