I Activated back in November Win 8 Pro with a MAK key first, than WMC with the promocional key by M$. Didn't use Advanced Tokens Manager at that time, but copied and saved: Store & Token folder in Windows/system32/spp.

I made I Windows 8 Pro WMC iso and integrated the promocional key and placed Store & Token folders to install.wim. Burned ISO to DVD and installed windows to the SAME PC where I had activated Windows 8 Pro WMC before.

At first startup windows system properties showed: Activated. I run slmgr.vbs -ato just to see what happens and got an error: 0xc004c400 on a computer running windows non-core edition, run slui.exe 0x2a 0xc004c400 to display the error text.

After that Windows is not activated any more.

Did I do something wrong or is it because of the MAK key I used to activate Win 8 Pro?
    Thanks

you can not verify/try to activate online with this method , you should never try slmgr -ato with free WMC key, only local activation is possible with method.just replace your store folder and then you should be activated again.

The correct method in admin command prompt type each in a new line

ipconfig /release (now we are disconnected from internet)

    net stop sppsvc

delete token.dat , data.dat (in system store folder)

    replace token.dat,data.dat (from backup)

    net start sppsvc

slmgr -ato (note we are not connected to internet now, hence this command is alright)

ipconfig /renew (now we are connected to internet)

    control /name Microsoft.System

    now check status

    a system error has occurred

    system error 5 has occurred

    access is denied

and first when I did net stop sppsvc: the software protection service is not started

never mind i overlooked your first post please donot replace the token folder just replacing the store folder is enough [token folder contains license files]

just run this command this command

    in admin cmd window

    Code:
    ipconfig /release

    slmgr -rilc

    net stop sppsvc

    now replace token.dat and data.dat

    net stop sppsvc

    ipconfig /renew

    control /name Microsoft.System

    now check status

@ slmgr -rilc got still error: error:0x80070426

you have written twice: net stop sppsvc in your last message (one of this should be ...START...?)

edit: too late for the last remark

Since it was a fresh install, with no software or anything I did a Refresh with windows DVD. Everything is back to normal. Windows: Activated

Never again I'll run slmgr -ato online.... with MS promotional key. We learn through mistakes.
I still wonder if windows installed with "windows 8 Pro WMC DVD" I made (explained in OP) is "Genuine" for M$?

THANKS BTOR for all you help

Even running slmgr -ato OFFLINE gives me an error Error_offline.gif but Windows stays Activated. Is that error normal?
I should have done sth wrong while integrating store $ token files to install.wim. Should not touch Token folder as BTOR said earlier

    1. dont use rilc as it's still buged
    2. store / spp has special permission which I guess are lost while copying back the store folder.

In result, save the permissions from a wim or another win8 system with icacls and apply them on the target machine. or allow sppsvc (user) full permissions.

again. don't use -rilc command it will break all updates that contain XRM-MS files (license files) as MS provides updates feature-pack related instead of file based.

slmgr -ato is only for online activation, to the best of my knowledge. It's not used for offline activation. The error actually means it couldn't contact the activation server.

    Complete error description:
    Code:
    Hex error code: 0x80072EE7
    Dec error code: -2147012889
    Description: ERROR_INTERNET_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED

    Thanks for your advice.
I could save permissions with: icacls d:\windows\system32\spp /save aclfile /t but when I apply: icacls c:\windows\system32\spp /restore aclfile - I get un error like: c:\windows\system32\spp\spp not found ...etc. What is wrong with the syntax? Thanks

apply it on system32 (not spp or even spp\spp) .. icacls restore has a messed up syntax. btw restore only works for folders not files (like /save does).
