I used to have a nice PC with an Intel Core i7 4790K, can anyone tell me what the more modern equivalent is for a newer MoBo socket as the older sockets have very little MoBo choice. Cheers
If you want to keep running an intel platform, the core i3 10100 is a modern equivalent cpu. You will have better single core performance compared to 4790k. This of course requires a new motherboard with socket LGA1200 and ddr4 memory.
kaljukass LGA 1150 is 2013, I am looking for something with in the last 3 years or so, TigTex how is an i3 better than that older i7 that seems crazy, lol (leaps and bounds in tech no doubt), is that what they call a comet lake cpu? ~ Thanks people
The i3 10th gen is a quad core hyperthreaded CPU, just like your old i7 but is uses a newer architecture with improved efficiency and higher IPC (instructions per clock). That's why a modern i3 is better than a 4th gen i7. And as time goes by, probably a modern Pentium will be better than your i7 You can google "i7 4790k passmark" and "i3 10100 passmark". I know, it's only a benchmark, but it's good for you to get an idea of the performance. Celeron, Pentium, i3 i5 i7 i9 alone mean nothing. It is important to also see the cpu generation
They just seem to make them more efficient and use less power. Clock speeds haven't changed much like the old days.
WindowsGeek @ £300 quid that's not gonna happen, and as runnyeggsham says, LGA1150 is short for FCLGA1150, lol..... Thanks TigTex for the info interesting stuff at a good price point.
Go ryzen just not the first gen if you want to run windows 11. Look at the 2000 series, cheap and great. You can get the R5 2600 6 core for around$50 used on ebay.
