whql (windows hardware quality labs) drivers means they are tested and "signed" by MSFT
you should be fine with either one but if you're not sure choose the whql drivers

when you tested, did you start with a clean install of OS for each version of the driver? that is a better test
or did you simply install on top of the previous version when you got the error?

I uninstalled and installed several times, and I get the same bug on 10.1.5.1001 WHQL every time. Also install through device manager with the same result.

(uninstalled was made with total uninstall 5.9.3)

uninstallations are never 100% complete as registry keys and dlls get left behind
even with total uninstall you can still have leftovers
anyways, did a quick search for intel rapid storage technology (turns out I also have it installed on my netbook)
and latest version is 9.6.0.1014 (which is what I am running too)
    check intel site
I always get my drivers from the manufacturer

    downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=18859

so not too sure I would load your version since it's not on their site

    Not completely true
MSI installations are very tidy, there is usually only logs left over when uninstalled properly.

anyway, the issue in thsi case is not the driver, but the application being used. HD Tune crashes ALOT.
