"Internal I/O" USB connectors?

    I was just looking at this board:

    neweggDOTcom/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16813128488

    and I realized I don't know if this:

    Internal I/O ConnectorsOnboard USB2 x USB 3.0 + 6 x USB 2.0

    Is referring to 8 MORE USB ports, in addition to the 8 on the back? I assume it is, but I don't like to assume.

    Am I right about that? That those are pins I can hook up the ports on a case with 8 USB ports (theoretical, go with me here) and have 16 USB ports, total?

    Eventually I want to make another box and hook up a bunch of external HDs to it. I'm also curious how many external USB HDs I can connect without problems (assuming I only plan to stress one drive at a time).
