i have the iphone 4s that windows explorer recognizes on 2 separate computers which are both running win8 and win7 ultimate.

itunes recognizes the phone in ultimate but NOT in win8.

i have tried different cables and an older iphone and itunes still does not recognize it win8.

i have the latest version of itunes (10.5.1.42) and the latest drivers. there are no pending windows updates.

anyone else have this happening? what is the solution to get itunes to recognize the phone in win8?

I noticed this too, restarting itunes and the Apple Mobile Device Service a few times solved it.

I've had this problem also, I've noticed that if I have it plugged in when starting windows up it tends to work.

Not really, as it installed just fine for me ...

Interestingly enough, though I have never checked it in Win8, until now, my iPhone is recognized.
I haven't tried a sync as I usually boot into Win7 to do so.
Hang on, I'll give it a go ...

After adding my iTunes folder to the Library in the iTunes Win8 8102 DP application (from my Win7 drive) and authorizing the Win8 8102 computer since iTunes sees it differently than my Win7 install, it all works as expected, now.

hey guys on the x64 bit side, you have to plug in you iphone. Restart Apple Mobile device in Services, THEN start iTunes, in that order. It will work everytime. :whistle3:

I just connected an iPad 2 to my desktop running WDP. At first iTunes did not detect it, but after restarting Apple Mobile Device Service it works fine.

Works for me right outta the gate. I have Win 8 up, connect my iPhone and start iTunes (it really doesn't matter in which order I do it).

Maybe it's my LiveID sign on?

I hadn't tried it before I implemented my LiveID sign on but it works as expected, for me.

If your iPhone 4S or earlier doesn't work with Win8, try this.

    1. Close iTunes and disconnect phone
    2. Secondary click iTunes and go to Properties
    3. On Compatibility tab set to Win7 and Run as Administrator
    4. Re-connect and open iTunes
    5. Has worked solidly after doing this every time whereas before it was hit and miss

another day and still the same problem on both pc's. checked local services and everything for iphone is running. rebooted numerous times and still no luck. the only thing that IS recognized by itunes is an older ipod. my 4s and 1st gen ipad are not recognized by itunes (pc recognizes all). running most current itunes version 10.5.2.

    Thanks!

Huge thanks for this...worked like a charm. Not terribly happy about having to do it every time, but after multiple Itunes re-installs, at least it's a workaround.
