Is it possible to change the volume of the notification sounds ?

    you failed to give OS .. To get rid of a sound you can .. Control panel --> Hardware and sound --> change system sounds --> Program events .. highlight sound --> then at bottom of page "sounds" click to open choices on left --> scroll to top and choose none --> click ok

    That will take away sound event

    He did not ask how to get rid of sounds.

    Windows sound mixer (click your volume icon in bottom right and choose mixer) has separate volume slider for System Sounds so that would cover it.

    Where I come from some volume to no volume is a change in volume
