AFAIK, if you use an (original MS) Retails RTM ISO (DVD or USB) you could run Upgrade and that will change the platform, may still using the VL and Add Feature should work! And if you have an legit Pro (None-VL) Key, use that one if needed.

    Hope that answers your questions.

If you want to use WMC the official way, a VL-activated Win8 Pro won't work. So if you have a non-VL key, apply it to Win8 Pro before using Add Features.

What about exporting Win 8 Pro and using DISM to change it ProWMC?

Don't think that's the official way in MS terms.

Don't get me wrong, I am not hung up on being original or official. Sure I like to have the original ISO's when I start my modifications but other then that, Ill change things till it breaks. :D

It is good to know that when install a ProWMC created be me, that it will accept WMC keys during the install.

NO! It means that you should use the RTM Retail ISO for to "Upgrade" the VL Version you run usinf to boot from that ISO and run Setup and chose Upgrade!

I know, I have an AIO, too. While it is working well, it's not the way MS intended, right? Hence I said ''If you want to use WMC the official way [...]''. Of course, there's the MDL way, too. :worthy:

Why even bother attempting all this for WMP? There are many other alternatives - particularly free alternatives that come with codecs for every kind of file you could possibly play, lighter on memory load, and doesn't require going through Windows Store. Just use VLC, PotPlayer, or something if you need an all purpose media player.

Is somebody confusing Windows Media Player with Windows Media Center?

Also, if I were the OP, before doing anything else, I would use slmgr /ipk my_retail_key followed by slmgr /ato if I were just trying to switch from Pro edition vl key to retail key. If you have no Pro retail key, then it is a whole different ball game.

The ISO from Retail/RTM and VL are different. You could use to to activate and Retail/RTM install with VL and Add Feature would work but vice versa AFAIK!

please, the only thing i wanna know is if the keys are interchangeable..as in, i can upgrade to pro vl version by just changing the product key to that of pro vl and then back to retail pro by changing key back to the normal retail dvd key
