Hello to all, I'm new to this forum and have a question about Windows 7. If I purchase for example an HP laptop with Windows 7 Home installed can it be change to Ultimate using one of the keys in this forum are there additional steps to take? Thanks to all
Simple Answer: No you can't change it. You can only change it, when you are reinstall it with an Windows 7 Version that you want.
Thanks to all for your quick responses. Would I have to modify the BIOS on this new laptop (will purchase tomorrow 10/22)? Sorry if this is a dumb question I'm new to this sort of thing.
OK damn I made a mistake, I thought he mean, that he would change from Win 7 Ultimate to Home ok my mistake
Yea you can upgrade windows versions(Not downgrade unless you use a Reg hack) by simply getting the OEM SLP key for the version you want and put that key into the program "Windows Anytime Upgrade". Go through that setup and before you know it you will have the upgraded version of windows 7 mate.
If it's done this way wouldn't Microsoft verify the Key and not enable Ultimate? BTW thanks for yet another tip. I love this forum
The cert is already install all you are doing is adding a new Slp key for Ultimate As long as it is new and Had Seven on it and not Upgrade from Vista you will be fine
you can use anytime upgrade and you don't have to worry about key verification because the key is genuine.
Go to the repository, grab an Ultimate key and then start the anytime upgrad wizard and paste the key in there. If you have 7 home premium with an OEM:slp activation allready in place then the anytime upgrade should accept the key and after a few minutes and a reboot you will have Ultimate. EDIT: sorry, didn't see Chronic had responded already.
With SLIC 2.1 already in BIOS, and preactivated preloaded Win7 from OEM, no install media required, use "Anytime Upgrade" wizard, insert SLP key for the edition you're upgrading to. 10 minutes and one reboot later you're done. oops, didn't notice there was 2nd page where the answer was already given
