    Hello gents,

I own a HP Envy 4-1117NR and every bios thats been released for it can't be read by Andy's tool. Now, there's another model, the HP Envy HP 4-1030us, that has bios' that can be read by Andy's tool. The two models are identical, apart from the motherboard number. My laptops motherboard number is 686087–002, whilst the 4-1030us is 686087–001. I believe the only difference is the bios they come flashed with. My laptop comes preinstalled with Windows 8, and the original bios supports Windows 8. Whilst the 1030us comes preinstalled with Windows 7 and the original bios is an old one that only has Windows 7 support.

Here's the bios history of the two models, they share the same bios' for the most part.

    HP ENVY 4-1030us:

    F.23 01-2013 Newer bios (supports windows 8) - Can't be read by Andy's Tool
    F.21 12-2012 Newer bios (supports windows 8) - Can't be read by Andy's Tool
    F.16 10-2012 Newer bios (supports windows 8) - Can't be read by Andy's Tool
    F.13 09-2012 Newer bios (supports windows 8) - Can't be read by Andy's Tool
    F.0A 05-2012 Older bios (doesn't support windows 8) - Andy's Tools Readable
    F.08 05-2012 Older bios (doesn't support windows 8) - Andy's Tools Readable
    F.05 04-2012 Older bios (doesn't support windows 8) - Andy's Tools Readable

    HP Envy 4-1117NR:

    F.25 06-2014 Newer bios (supports windows 8) - Can't be read by Andy's Tool
    F.24 10-2013 Newer bios (supports windows 8) - Can't be read by Andy's Tool
    F.23 01-2013 Newer bios (supports windows 8) - Can't be read by Andy's Tool
    F.21 12-2012 Newer bios (supports windows 8) - Can't be read by Andy's Tool
    F.16 10-2012 Newer bios (supports windows 8) - Can't be read by Andy's Tool
    F.13 09-2012 Newer bios (supports windows 8) - Can't be read by Andy's Tool

Is it possible to flash the F.0A 1030us bios to my laptop? The Insyde flasher won't allow me.

Thanks for the reply. Both batteries found in the laptops are the same.

    • RTC Battery for 4-1117NR = 686922-001
    • RTC Battery for 4-1030US = 686922–001

    • 4 Cell Battery 4-1117NR = 681949-001
    • 4 Cell Battery 4-1030US = 681949-001

The bios that came with my laptop was F.13, it's named 01894.bin. Unfortunately, I dban formatted the original hard drive so the HP partition was erased. I'll see if the findamount tool can recover it. How important are the sig and .s12 files? I do have the .bin file.

not sure of .s12 but sig is needed for bios recovery.

Just scanned the hard drive with all 3 methods, no partitions were found. I'll have to see if someone that owns the same model laptop can send me the files.
