    A mate of mine wants to install Windows 8 on his laptop but his CD drive is faulty.

    Is there a way to install Windows 8 from a USB Stick?

    If possible, can someone point me to a procedure on how to do this?

    Thanks in advance

    boot the machine and go to Bios by pressing F1 e.g. depends on the Bios. then adjust the Boot sequence to boot from USB devise and u go. When a 1st restart is necessary during the setup process unplug the USB device as you might run into a loop or go to Bios again when booting as your first restart and reset your boot sequence to as it was at the beginning :D

    well... Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool don't working at all. It format's the usb disk in NTFS. This is epic fail because if the usb stick is with ntfs it will not boot properly ---> ntldr missing ctrl+alt+delete etc etc....

    The usb stick must be FAT32....

    The method which i prefer and recommend, is pretty simple and straightforward.

    1) Formating the usb disk ---> FAT32
    2) decompressing the windows 8 iso somewhere
    3) cut all the files/folders from the extracted iso and paste in the usb disk
    4) start, run, cmd (cmd must be opened with administrative privileges)
    5) for example H is the letter of the usb disk. So.. write: H: (enter), cd boot (enter), bootsect /nt60 H:

    Done....

    maybe the luck has touch you in the back :p :)

    seriously, i have try many times with such of this tools, and all failing, because either they don't update the bootcode properly, or formatting the usb disks with ntfs. after reboot, and booting from usb you getting the known error, so.... personally im doing the dirty work will a little more effort but guaranteed

    and is more faster than dvd, is your usb stick have good read/write speed. the installation taking less time for complete :)

    I've just used Sardu 2.0.5 to install W8 RTM from USB stick.
    It's very easy .
    You can try it here :

    EasyBCD anyone? :) use a function called "Create bootable media", and then just copy the Win8 DVD contents into the USB. FAT32 is fine :)

    The problem with the win 7 tool is that it format the USB in NTFS format. But if you install to OS on a system with UEFI bios, the USB must be FAT32, if not the installation will fail.
    So, you can use the windows 7 tool to make the bootble USB drive, then copy the content of the USB to the hard drive, format the USB with FAT32 abd then copy back the copied content to the USB drive.

    Good luck with your new installation.

    Nah, I've already tried with UltraISO but to no avail. Probably a crappy usb device. Dunno.

    I installed over Release Preview using my USB, of course.
    ->
    Format USB pendrive as NTFS
    Copy all the iso content to the newly formatted pendrive
    ->
    Run Setup and enjoy.
