Is it safe to replace notepad with Notepad++? I'm crafting my own Windows 10 with help of the MSMG tool, and I thought about replacing files myself in the mounted images. And if yes, should I put minimal Notepad++, or can I put full? Will it be able to update itself since it's in the windows folder?
The short and simple answer is that you cannot replace Windows components with third-party programs. You cannot remove Notepad and use any third-party program or app instead. Notepad is parts of the Windows system and any Windows system part cannot be replaced with third-party programs because many other parts of Windows use the same components that Notepad uses. For Notepad, Windows has only two separate startup modules, 197 kB on a 32-bit system and 162 kB on a 64-bit system, respectively. I think, it's not so much that it should be removed. Isn't it?
The devs behind Displayfusion have a program that "replaces" notepad with an editor of your choice, without changing system files: https //www binaryfortress com/NotepadReplacer/
Hi nexuizayya to MDL thanks for the indication, although I myself use Notepad3 which performs the same function without problems
