The Windows Module Installer for Windows Vista SP2 and Windows Server 2008 (KB955430) is dated April 2009. I'm having issues getting some .msu files to install because an error message appears which says the Windows Module Installer needs to be updated first. I've done some searching, but have been unsuccessful in finding a more updated one. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks for your reply. I already know that WMI and SSU are separate. I was hoping there was a downloadable WMI update. KB4474419 SHA2 was installed earlier in the process. KB5006750 SSU needs to wait until after the October 2021 update is installed.
Ping me when you reply to my replies. SSU and WMI separate. Anyways, you're saying the latest SSU can't install without another update, right? Which monthly rollup do you have installed right now?
I spent a good part of the afternoon installing the 22 SMQR updates from February 2020 to November 2021. The October 2021 SSU is also installed. Done.
The error message means the servicing stack version, not TrustedInstaller.exe version it's derived from update.mum most updates have this, which means to use whatever SS version available Code: <installerAssembly name="Microsoft-Windows-ServicingStack" version="6.0.0.0" language="neutral" processorArchitecture="x86" versionScope="nonSxS" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35"/> restricted updates require specific version Code: <installerAssembly name="Microsoft-Windows-ServicingStack" version="6.0.6003.20826" language="neutral" processorArchitecture="x86" versionScope="nonSxS" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" /> TrustedInstaller.exe is just the executioner it's only get updated with service pack (or big Updates in Windows 8.1)
I did encounter this error during my tests. I think it was on the latest cumulative for the .net 2.0 & 3.0 as well as on the IE9 cumulative kb453xxxx. Since you see this error instead of something about "bad signature" it means that the SHA2 updates is properly installed. There is no updated installer. I think that you just need .netfxbypass. Or the latest SSU. Or both. Which update gives you this error? Is it an ESU Update? KB5006750 SSU Does not need to wait that long. Install it as soon as you have installed SHA2 support (and kb4493730) and restarted the computer.
Yes, first install both SHA2 support updates then latest SSU. I think it's better to install latest LCU too to fix WU bugs.
